These are the horses that will live out the rest of their lives at Blackbird ranch.  Some were neglected and some were loved, but they are all loved for the rest of their time on this earth.

Any donations towards their care is greatly appreciated- you can sponsor monthly or just a one time donation.  Anything and everything is appreciated.  Please see list below for some of the costs for the horses needing sponsors.  Or if you choose, you can purchase an item to be donated.

Wormer - $15-$27
Feed - $20-$40 depending on type
Hay - $5 per square bale
           $110 per round bale
Vaccines - $60
Hoof Trims - $50
Dental work - $100-$250
Winter Sheets or Fly Sheets - $25-$200
We also try to purchase used halters, blankets, lead ropes

Angel -  Appaloosa cross
Angel was born at Blackbird Ranch in the spring of 2021 to Faith, an Appaloosa mare that was saved at auction in 2020 and came along with her foal Willy.  So not only was poor Faith nursing Willy, she was growing a wee little Angel.  To this day Angel is slightly on the smaller size.  This poor girl has gone through it all.  Her momma passed away when she was only 6 months old, and she started to struggle, she was brought up and put in a pen closer to the house to monitor her.  She was nipped behind the ear by Kim's pup that was trying to play and ended up with Tetnus.  We weren't sure she was going to make it.  Kim and I would sling her up every day to try and get her legs working.  Well, one day she just stood up on her own!  Unfortunately, she was still a bit weak and tripped and fell and hit her eye.  Which has now made her blind on that side.  Fast forward 2 years, and she was running out in the trees with the ponies and somehow punctured herself and broke a rib.  She clearly takes after Kim and I, in the accident department.  But being with her, you wouldd never know she's blind on one side, and she is by far the chillest foal around.  Nothing, absolutely nothing phases her, not even the tractor beeping at her to get her to move.

Catori - Pinto Mare
Catori is a sweet mare that was adopted but her owners situation changed and she came back to live with us at Blackbird Ranch.  She now has a touch of arthritis in her joints and will live out her days with her man Midas and all of the other horses at Blackbird Ranch.

​CRUMPET
Crumpet came to us from auction in 2016, very underweight, and twisted hooves. She rode home in the backseat of the truck on Courtney's lap. Nobody thought she'd make it, she was so weak and her feet hurt so bad. She was left in one of our stalls for 2 days with a friend, so that if she did pass away, she wouldn't be alone. Beyond anyone's imagination, she pulled through and is the first one to come and see you to see if you have a treat for her. Crumpet recently attended Pet Expo 2024 with her best friend Sassy!

Ford
Unfortunately, Ford has been diagnosed with having a  roach back, so he will be a permanent resident or pasture companion only. Ford is a 5 year old gelding. He is either a Standard Bred or Standbard bred cross. He came from auction extremely timid and thanks to a great foster came out of his shell. He loves people, is halter broke, very quiet and one of the sweetest horses we've met

Lucille (Lucy) - Quarter Horse
​Lucy was found on Varage Sale for $150 as a 30 year skinny mare. A young lady was able to purchase her and put the weight back on her.  At this time, it was decided that where Lucy (her name was Holly) was living at her grandmothers house, was going to up for sale, so they contacted us to see if we could take her.  How could we say no?  She's a very sweet, food motivated old lady

Midas
Midas was left in a small pasture all of his life. His feet were rotting out from under him and he was very skinny. Some love, good quality hay and hoof care has brought him a long way from where he was. He is very sweet, calm and relaxed which has made it very easy to work with him.  This gentle giant is the sweetest, most relaxed horse one our property. He has found his forever home here with us at Blackbird Ranch.

Sassy
Sassy's mom Pixie was saved at auction in the fall of 2015.  At the time it was not known that she had been bred.  Low and behold looking at her pictures in the winter we noticed that she had a bit of a belly.  April 2016 brought the surprise birth of a wonderful addition to Blackbird.  That addition is Sassafrass (known as Sassy) and boy does she live up to her name.  Sassy just recently made an appearance the Mantiboba Pet Expo 2024 with her best friend Crumpet

Ranger
 came to us from the Grunthal auction in April of this year. He was the last one to run through and clearly had stringhault. We couldn't let him go, so he came home with us. When we went to the pen to get him to load him on the trailer, he was so scared he was shaking. We walked him to the trailer and he shook even more, but trusted us enough to load onto the trailer without having to be run in. At just approx 3 years old, he has stringhault and catastrophic arthritis on the same leg. While it doesn't seem to bother him right now, we will let him tell us when he his getting too sore and that its time to go. We are hoping he has many happy years with us left.
