Bailey - Quarter Horse Mare
Bailey is a 16-18 year old redheaded girl with a solid build, who stands about 14.3-15hh. She is fairly well broke but after having been a pasture puff for quite some time needed just a little refresh. She leads, loads, ties and stands to be trimmed nicely. She is a bit of a shy mare, and would benefit from some one on one time with her own person to help her come out of her shell a little bit more. She would be suitable for a person with some experience. Having been alone for so long, she does tend to become a bit her bound, but is getting much better. Bailey is best housed on pasture and fed using a hay net as she came to us having a mild case of heaves, which has easily been managed. Please consider giving this doll of a mare the chance she deserves! |
CRUMPET
Crumpet came to us from auction in 2016, very underweight, and twisted hooves. She rode home in the backseat of the truck on Courtney's lap. Nobody thought she'd make it, she was so weak and her feet hurt so bad. She was left in one of our stalls for 2 days with a friend, so that if she did pass away, she wouldn't be alone. Beyone anyone's imagination, she pulled through and is the first one to come and see you to see if you have a treat for her. Ford
Unfortunately, Ford has been diagnosed with having a roach back, so he will be a permanent resident or pasture companion only. Ford is a 5 year old gelding. He is either a Standard Bred or Standbard bred cross. He came from auction extremely timid and thanks to a great foster came out of his shell. He loves people, is halter broke, very quiet and one of the sweetest horses we've met |
Gulliver - Saddlebred gelding
Gulliver is approx 13 years old and we are suspecting he is gaited. He is a tall, elegant guy, standing about 16 hh. Once the weather breaks, we will start assessing him. He is a very handsome gelding that is a little "in your face" and needs some reminders in ground manners. He came from the PVO, lifts his feet very well, but very wary of people and looks to have some trust issues, but we will work on that with the warmer weather coming. Can't wait to see what he looks like once his winter fuzz is gone! **UPDATE** We took Gulliver out of the pen on the weekend and it turns out we have a Saddlebred! He is not available at this time, as we need to work on his nervousness. He is nervous, but gives 110% and will try anything for you once he realizes it won't hurt him. He is beautiful to lunge and super soft. We will be taking him to the arena soon to put a saddle on him and see what he thinks of it. |
Midas
Midas was left in a small pasture all of his life. His feet were rotting out from under him and he was very skinny. Some love, good quality hay and hoof care has brought him a long way from where he was. He is very sweet, calm and relaxed which has made it very easy to work with him. This gentle giant is the sweetest, most relaxed horse one our property. He has found his forever home here with us at Blackbird Ranch. |
Pixie and Sassy
Pixie was saved at auction in the fall of 2015. At the time it was not known that she had been bred. Low and behold looking at her pictures in the winter we noticed that she had a bit of a belly. April 2016 brought the surprise birth of a wonderful addition to Blackbird. That addition is Sassafrass (known as Sassy) and boy does she live up to her name. The birth of Sassy made Pixie aware of how much Blackbird loves them and she has come around leaps and bounds and is not as fearful as she once was. On the other hand, Sassy thinks she's a dog! She runs to the gate when she sees you, follows you around and even goes for car rides. This little one sure has won over everyones heart and remain at Blackbird as hopefully a therapy pony. |
Ranger
came to us from the Grunthal auction in April of this year. He was the last one to run through and clearly had stringhault. We couldn't let him go, so he came home with us. When we went to the pen to get him to load him on the trailer, he was so scared he was shaking. We walked him to the trailer and he shook even more, but trusted us enough to load onto the trailer without having to be run in. At just approx 3 years old, he has stringhault and catastrophic arthritis on the same leg. While it doesn't seem to bother him right now, we will let him tell us when he his getting too sore and that its time to go. We are hoping he has many happy years with us left. |
